The USDA Forest Service is seeking a District Zone Fire Management Officer located in Waldron, AR. The incumbent will plan, develop, implement, coordinate, and evaluate an integrated fire management program to achieve resource management objectives.

Responsibilities

Establish priorities for fire hazard reduction, prescribed fire, fire prevention and/or fuels management to minimize potential damage

Coordinate operations with cooperating agencies on incidents during all phases of the fire, fuels and/or aviation management planning on the district/zone

Coordinate the development of short-range and/or long-range strategies for emergency incidents. Modify existing procedures to solve unprecedented or critical fire management problems

Advise Line Officers and/or agency administrators on development of strategies and appropriate courses of actions for all incidents

Observe operations to assess effectiveness to identify further needs

Coordinate operations with cooperating agencies on large fires with great potential for damage to resources to make improvements to human safety

Perform administrative and leadership management functions for the unit such as providing advice, counsel or instruction on both administrative and work matters

Must be a U.S. Citizen or National

Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served

This is a drug testing designated position. You will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing

Must pass the Work Capacity Test for certain Interagency Fire Program Management or Fire Program Management positions

Subject to one year supervisory/managerial probationary period unless prior service is creditable

Secondary Coverage: Prior wildland firefighting experience is required

Willing to live/work in remote locations (volatile/unpredictable)

Successfully completed the Primary NWCG Core Requirements of Task Force Leader (TFLD) and Secondary NWCG Core Requirement of Incident Commander Type 3 (ICT3) or Prescribed Fire Burn Boss Type 2 (RXB2)-OR-Primary NWCG Core Requirements of Helibase Manager (HEBM) and Secondary NWCG Core Requirement of Incident Commander Type 3 (ICT3)

Successfully completed the NWCG Course # M-581 Fire Program Management

Interagency Fire Program Management (IFPM) and Forest Service - Fire Program Management (FS-FPM) qualifications must be met by the time of selection

In order to be considered for this position, copies of your Incident Qualification and Certification System (IQCS) Master Record (or equivalent training documents) which contain documented proof of the certification or attainment of the IFPM Selective Placement Factor for this position MUST be attached to your application

Currency Requirement: Required to maintain currency once hired into the position

This position has been identified as Moderate Complexity under the Forest Service Fire Program Management (FS-FPM) and is subject to selective placement factor requirements contained in the Interagency Fire Program Management (IFPM) Standard and Guide when filling this vacancy

FIREFIGHTER RETIREMENT COVERAGE: This is a secondary firefighter position under 5 USC 8336 (CSRS) and 8412(d) (FERS)
