Boston Children's Hospital is seeking a Per Diem - Image Service Representative who will be responsible for managing requests for patient film and digital image records. The role includes retrieving, converting, and delivering images, as well as responding to inquiries and adhering to medical information release policies.

Responsibilities

Receiving, prioritizing, and responding to requests for patient film/digital image records in accordance with established procedures and guidelines. Accessing hospital and departmental information systems to track and locate film/digital image files and creating logs and coding files as needed. Retrieving and delivering films/digital images to designated locations within the department and throughout the Hospital

Preparing and digitally converting images for viewing by the radiologist or customer. Retrieving requested patient files, completing required logs and records, and digitally converting when necessary. Training others on the use of the digitizer and PACS cube functionality

Receiving and responding to routine and urgent inquiries regarding the status and location of missing files and digital images. Researching manual and computer records to locate and retrieve requested files and digital images for physicians, parents/patients, and other hospital and departmental staff. Investigating and resolving image tracking and location issues and problems, recommending possible solutions and referring unusual or sensitive matters to the supervisor

Answering, screening, and routing telephone calls and greeting and directing patients/parents, physicians, and other hospital staff. Responding to requests for routine information and assistance, referring callers to appropriate personnel or locations as needed. Receiving and recording digital image requests, providing basic information on radiologic procedures, and reading radiology report results to callers as appropriate

Adhering to government rules on the release of medical information. Following JCAHO, HIPAA, and legal policies on the release of information

Required

High School Diploma/GED

1 year of experience

Analytical skills and judgment to interpret data and take the appropriate action in circumstances or situations, which are relatively routine

Ability to understand and respond to written or verbal instructions. Incumbents must respond appropriately to instructions, questions or requests for information

Contact with patients and/or visitors which involves courtesy

Ability to understand basic human anatomy
