Produce Manager

Responsibilities
Engages the customer in a friendly manner, shares product information and assists in locating product throughout the store. Seeks opportunities to exceed customer expectations and enhance the customer experience

Observes all company rules and policies. Understands and complies with specific department or location guidelines, tasks and responsibilities
Manages and provides oversight to all areas of the department. Assesses, prioritizes and delegates tasks and production. Directly responsible for management of all department staff
Ensures consistency of department conditions. Ensures all areas of department are stocked, rotated, faced and adhere to merchandising standards and category schematics
Ensures department compliance with all company organic standards
Responsible for in-stock conditions in department. Maintains appropriate inventory levels to achieve sales and margin goals
Orders produce according to anticipated sales and seasonal needs. Trains staff to write orders and production schedules consistent with department goals and standards to ensure the highest level of product availability
Builds displays and arranges department products to make attractive presentations, highlighting featured/unique/seasonal items
Plans for weekly ads, events and holidays using tools and reports. Works with store management to understand and respond to current store trends
Coordinates with Promotions department to plan and conduct in-store tastings
Maintains professional vendor relationships
Ensures customer special orders are accurately placed and delivered
Receives and unloads merchandise; checks quality, count and condition. Communicates any issues to management and merchandising team
Stocks and rotates products with attention to product quality and expiration dates
Cleans, trims, packages, prices, rotates and stocks produce department products
Maintains the organization, rotation and cleanliness of back stock areas
Plans, leads and analyses the monthly perishable inventory
Demonstrates and shares a solid knowledge of products in the store and industry trends with a general understanding of culinary terminology, product labelling and common dietary restrictions
Demonstrates a solid understanding of labor, sales and margin goals and factors that influence them. Meets labor and margin goals and schedule department accordingly. Develops and executes a plan when results do not meet expectations
Coaches department to maintain appropriate, accurate and organized inventory and back stock. Handles damaged and spoiled product according to company policy
Maintains a working knowledge of department equipment and is able to train staff and troubleshoot errors as needed
Leverages resources and labor to maximize efficiency, without compromising quality and service standards
Balances administrative tasks with presence on floor
Performs other tasks and duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
3+ years of retail or grocery management experience required
Previous produce experience in a retail, farm or distribution environment required
Previous ordering/inventory management experience required
Mid to high-level proficiency with MS Office
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
Basic to intermediate math and computation skills required
Skills to read, understand and follow through on verbal and written instructions
Skills to exercise good judgment at all times
Skills to resolve conflicts and analyze a variety of situations to find a solution
Should have the ability to speak, read and understand English
Preferred
Experience in a high-volume environment preferred
Working knowledge with POS, inventory or other retail specific software preferred
