Corporate Controller

Construction

Responsibilities

Establishes and implements all internal accounting procedures and controls
Keeps books and records on all company transactions and assets
Prepares ad-hoc and monthly financial reports (e.g., Balance Sheet, income statements, P&L, cash flow)
Has a strong working knowledge of construction accounting, percentage completion, and Work in Process
Addresses vendor setups, authorizations, and problems
Maintains the integrity of the data in the payroll system
Performs corporate budgeting, tax planning, reconciliation, and re-forecasting processes
Maintains checks and balances, and internal controls
Conducts financial analysis, forecasts, and modeling; manages annual budget and cash functions
Is a businessperson before a finance person
Serves as the secondary interface (e.g., CFO) with the bank, lenders, CPA, and surety
Ensures the company’s financial activities and reporting are consistent with regulatory guidelines
Ensures compliance with all federal, state & local corporate, payroll, sales, and other applicable taxes
Supervises, coaches, and evaluates staff
Oversees cash management to optimize the use of cash and minimize the company’s debt
Responsible for the General Ledger, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed asset depreciation, amortization schedule, credit card, treasury, and bank reconciliations
Conducts financial statement preparation and analysis
With input from the CFO, establishes credit limits and applications
Represents the company in all external audits and coordinates year-end audit preparation
Primary contact for the annual Corporate Financial Audit under the direction of the CFO
Leads annual Employee Stock Ownership Audit under the direction of the CFO
Reviews current cost accounting and job costing systems
Coordinates administrative functions to ensure efficiency, customer service, and accountability
Maintains key performance indicators
Assists facilities management
Performs administrative functions (e.g., record keeping, filing, documentation)
Completes and reviews various forms for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
Oversees payroll activities, tracks employee data (e.g., vacation, sick leave, employee status)
Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, experienced in EXCEL, and standard office equipment
Provides excellent service (e.g., accurate, complete, and timely) to clients, vendors, and company staff in a courteous and efficient manner

Required

Corporate Controller (or equivalent) role with a Construction Company
Strong comprehension of accounting fundamentals. Including GAAP and revenue recognition
Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP). Accounting for, financial management of
People management, including a minimum of three (3) direct reports
Education or an equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Bookkeeping. Undergraduate or equivalent
Certified Public Accountant (active or inactive), Bookkeeping certificate or related
A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience involving accounting practices, office management, and organizational procedures
Construction Software / ERP. Viewpoint, SAGE, Boss, American Contractor or related
Data Visualization Tool working knowledge. Ex: Tableau, MS Power BI, or related
A valid California class C driver's license, which must be maintained throughout employment in this job classification, is required at the time of appointment
Fluent English communication skills are required of this job classification

Preferred

While a Certified Public Accountant certification is desirable, there are no specific certifications required of this job classification
