Traffic Data Technician

Responsibilities

Scheduling traffic data collection studies; performing traffic data studies; setting, securing, and picking up portable traffic data monitoring equipment; retrieving, reviewing, and recording traffic monitoring data to capture accurate vehicle volume count, vehicle classification, and other traffic attributes on city, county, and state roads
Purchasing traffic data monitoring equipment, tools, and supplies. Conducting annual inventory to ensure adequate equipment, tools, and supplies are available
Performing utility locates on any component of the traffic monitoring system located underground/inroad when work is scheduled/planned to be performed at or near traffic monitoring equipment
Setting up, repairing, and maintaining equipment and tools

Required

A valid driver license is required
Frequent in-state travel with occasional overnights stays required
Experience in traffic data collection studies is preferred
Knowledge of traffic data collection methods
Knowledge of data collection, trends, and analysis
Knowledge of electronic equipment and computer hardware, and the installation, operation, and maintenance of
Skill to operate a multi-meter
Skill to maintain and/or repair electronic equipment
Skill to read and interpret electrical construction plans
Skill to use a computer and operate Microsoft software
Skill to use and maintain a variety of hand and power tools
Ability to display high standards of ethical conduct
Ability to adjust effectively to changing, new or different situations or work
Ability to work independently
Ability to attend to all details of assignments and complete work properly, accurately, and thoroughly
Ability to listen attentively to others and clearly convey information and ideas
Ability to display a high level of effort and commitment towards completing assignments and goals

Ability to routinely reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
Ability to navigate roadway ditches, raised medians, barriers and other obstacles or uneven terrain by foot quickly and safely

Preferred

Experience in traffic data collection studies is preferred
Knowledge of traffic data collection methods (preferred but not required)
Knowledge of data collection, trends, and analysis (preferred but not required)
Knowledge of electronic equipment and computer hardware, and the installation, operation, and maintenance of (preferred but not required)
Skill to operate a multi-meter (preferred but not required)
