Coastal Roots Farm is a nonprofit Jewish community farm and education center. The Production Intern will support the maintenance of the vegetable fields and various production tasks while gaining hands-on experience in organic farming and community engagement.

Responsibilities

Learn about and support various vegetable production tasks such as transplanting, weeding, harvesting, insect scouting, field and irrigation maintenance, field preparation, trellising, mulching, fertilizing, composting, propagation house tasks, etc

Support post-harvest washing and packing as needed

Support staff during farmstand hours, community programs, and events

Required

Interest in organic, regenerative, and/or sustainable farming practices

Passion surrounding community farming, food justice, and food systems development

Have the physical ability to bend, squat, kneel or stand for extended periods of time in a range of climate conditions

Friendly, hardworking, and punctual disposition

Ability to safely work with sharp hand tools

Eager to learn, flexible with assignments, and willing to jump into unfamiliar tasks

Interest in working with the public to share the importance of local and sustainable agriculture

Ability to work well in a group setting or independently, set priorities, and see projects through to completion

Strong interpersonal and relationship development skills

Good written and verbal communication skills

Comfortable using a computer

Preferred

Pursuing a certificate or degree in related field is a plus but not required (i.e. environmental education, agriculture, food justice, ecological stewardship, outdoor education, ethnobotany, environmental science, etc.)
