Responsibilities
Provides direct support for individuals (no more than 4) with disabilities and challenging behavior in a community and/or residential setting. Assists the person(s) receiving services in identifying and communicating his or her requests and needs for services and supports
Implements services and supports to address the person’s goals and desired outcomes as identified through START Team
Seeks to understand the individuals in the context of their personal history, their social and family networks, and their hopes and dreams for the future
Provides a therapeutic environment for individuals at all times
Relies on direction and supervision to accomplish the job
Provide integrated care and treatment with collaboration among all team members
Ability to support someone with behavioral challenges and implement effective crisis management protocols
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or GED and One year of experience, have direct support experience with individuals with mental health and intellectual disabilities who have serious behavioral challenges and experience with crisis management OR have a Bachelor's degree in Human services field. If degree is not in Human services, must have experience with population
Valid driver's license (this is a condition of employment) including personal vehicle insurance coverage for liability
Must maintain proficiency in company sponsored training and certifications specified and or required by future company regulations
Maintain CPR and First Aid certification
Successfully complete and maintain training courses as required or amended by company policy
Regularly required to lift 30 lbs
Must be able to lift a minimum of 70 lbs
Must be able to pull a minimum of 50lbs
Must be able to squat, kneel, crawl, crouch, climb, and stoop
Must be able to regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls
Required to regularly stand and walk
Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in CPR from the floor level requiring to work on hands, knees, bending, standing and lifting
Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision
Complete criminal background
Name checked in the registries. (OIG exclusions database, Child Abuse Registry, and Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities)
Drug testing
Education verification and other credentialing based on position requirements
Proof of employment history or references (if required)
Positions that require driving Proof of driver's license, driver's insurance, and vehicle, IF required for providing transportation for individuals
