Payroll Specialist - People Solution Center
Mercedes-Benz North America Corporation is a US subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, one of the leading global suppliers of premium and luxury cars and vans. The Payroll Specialist in the People Solution Center will support payroll activities for US and Canadian entities by reconciling payroll data, collaborating with external providers, and ensuring compliance with tax regulations.

Responsibilities
Reconcile payroll registers and employee withholding to tax files created for payment remittance and filing of returns for US and Canada
Collaborate with external payroll processing provider to resolve tax discrepancies and record necessary adjustments to employee pay data
Coordinate quarterly and year-end tax activities for US and Canada with external payroll processing provider and local entities to record necessary adjustments to employee pay data. Reconcile quarterly and annual tax reporting to payroll registers and other system reports
Collaborate with Mercedes-Benz Tax group to ensure proper tax treatment is applied to earnings and deduction codes for US and Canada
Collaborate closely with accounting when creating earning or deduction codes to ensure they are mapped to the correct cost centers. In addition, accounting requires certain files each pay period to reconcile and validate that payroll registers align with the entries in the accounting system. This is a tested control during ICS reviews
Periodically audit employee tax setup in system to ensure accuracy
Request external payroll processing provider setup new earnings/ deduction and tax codes
Liaise with local entities and external payroll processing provider to setup and maintain all necessary tax registrations in the US and Canada
Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for all assigned tasks
Setup and maintain user roles in system based on an analysis of needs. Configure in the technology system the assigned users and maintain users as needed
Perform internal controls testing as prescribed. Identify and remediate any control gaps
Execute recurring and ad-hoc reporting as needed for cross-entity reporting
Develop and maintain dashboards using reporting and analytic tools to report on KPIs and other agreed upon metrics
Execute confidential pay runs as requested by entities
Forward garnishment questionnaires, notifications and tax notices to external payroll processing provider
Qualification
Required
This position requires a minimum of 3+ years of overall work experience
Bachelor's Degree is required
Knowledge of internal controls, recording and reporting of payroll transactions, including the origination of the transaction
Preferred
Master's Degree is preferred
Recommended majors include: Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting/ Finance, Tax
