Responsibilities
Database Architecture & Management: Design, administer, and maintain Azure Managed SQL databases supporting high volume, mission-critical production workloads
Database Performance & Optimization: Monitor, troubleshoot, and tune database performance, including query optimization, indexing strategies, and capacity planning
Production Support: Provide hands-on production support, incident response, root cause analysis, and preventative measures to ensure high availability and reliability
Database Security: Implement and enforce database security best practices including access controls, encryption, auditing, and compliance with internal and external requirements
Query Review & Optimization: Partner with developers to review, optimize, and standardize SQL queries (T-SQL, Dapper), ensuring efficient and scalable data access patterns
Schema & Data Changes: Manage and deploy schema and data changes across environments, including automation of database migrations and versioning
Automation: Identify and automate manual database processes related to deployments, maintenance, monitoring, and operational tasks
Monitoring & Dashboarding: Build and maintain database monitoring, alerting, and dashboards to track health, performance, and capacity metrics
Data Archiving & Analytics Support: Design and implement data archiving strategies to Synapse Analytics or other analytical datastores to support reporting and long-term data retention
ETL & Data Pipelines: Support and contribute to ETL workflows using Azure Data Factory and related Azure data services
Azure Resource Management: Manage database-related Azure resources, ensuring cost efficiency, scalability, and alignment with architectural standards
Documentation & Best Practices: Document Drips' database architecture, data flows, operational processes, and establish database standards and best practices
Technical Leadership: Act as a trusted advisor to engineering leadership and management on database strategy, risks, and improvements
Qualification
Required
8+ years of professional experience as a Database Administrator, with a strong focus on Azure Managed SQL in production environments
Deep hands-on experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, backups, High Availability/Disaster Recovery, and performance tuning
Advanced expertise in T-SQL, query optimization, indexing, and execution plan analysis
Proven ability to support and optimize databases for high-throughput, low-latency, highly transactional systems
Strong troubleshooting skills with experience supporting production systems and resolving complex database issues
Experience automating database operations and deployments using scripts, pipelines, or infrastructure-as-code approaches
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain database concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
Demonstrated experience using AI-assisted tools or platforms to enhance DBA workflows, including query analysis, performance tuning, incident investigation, documentation, or operational automation
Preferred
Experience with Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory, Table Storage and related data platform services
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for database schema and data deployments
Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, or third-party database monitoring tools
Experience supporting analytical workloads, data warehousing, or data lake architectures
Microsoft Azure certifications such as Azure Database Administrator Associate or Azure Solutions Architect Expert
