Qualification
Required
High school diploma or equivalent
Two years of experience in a building or planning department
Six months of experience in processing computerized building permit applications
ICC Permit Technician certification is required or must be obtained within one year of employment
Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures
Familiarity with building plans, codes, ordinances and related terminology
Knowledge of the processes and procedures associated with the construction permitting process
Strong attention to detail with a focus on ensuring data entry accuracy
Skill in both written and oral communication
Ability to provide excellent customer service
Ability to quickly learn and apply departmental policies and procedures related to the acceptance and review of permit applications
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to work with a wide variety of people, including industry professionals, internal staff, and the general public
Ability to maintain composure under difficult circumstances
Ability to complete tasks with multiple distractions
Preferred
Bilingual in Spanish
Knowledge of permitting software such as OpenGov or BluePrince
