Skyland Trail is a nonprofit mental health residential treatment program for adults and adolescents in Atlanta, seeking a Financial Counselor. The role involves handling financial information, verifying insurance details, and providing guidance to clients regarding their financial responsibilities related to treatment.

Responsibilities

Performs pre-admitting activities such as communicating with families prior to admission all the necessary financial information

Verifies the patients insurance information within 48 hours after receiving the VOB when all the information needed is in Salesforce or from email request from admissions

In person appointment or phone conference call with the Financial Responsible Party to explain insurance coverage, deductibles, out of pocket and copays, and lifetime maximums. Private pay costs, authorization process, denials and financial aid program are discussed in detail. Establishes patient liability based on insurance verification information, applicable discounts (FA) and estimated costs of planned care

Conduct interviews either by phone conference call or in person appointment to obtain required demographics and required signatures on legal consents and insurance forms

Explains the charges, services and Skyland Trails policy regarding payment of bills

Collects the initial payment for services on or before the day of admission

Promotes positive public relations with residents, family members and guests

Receive, answers and resolves incoming calls and emails

Once a client is admitted; enter the information into the Practice Management System. Responsible for accurate data entry to ensure claims will go out electronically without errors

Maintains financial chart and adds all previous email correspondence, online insurance verification at admission and chart audits within 24 hours of admission

Performs other administrative tasks as assigned

Required

3 years of experience with strong knowledge of medical documentation, insurance verifications, third party reimbursements requirements, and financial liability calculations

Superior customer service skills

Experience interacting with managed care plans, and all other third party payers

Ability to work with internal and external customers including physicians, clinical providers, nurses, etc

Multitasker with the ability to work in a fast paced environment with changing priorities and deadlines

Knowledge of Excel, Word and other IT systems relevant to the organizations work flow

Meet the quarterly and yearly KPIs

Preferred

Associates degree preferred

Certifications (s) in any medical administrations, medical billing, coding, etc. is a plus

Behavior healthcare experience preferred

HCFA and UB Knowledge helpful
