Technical Specialist – Gears, Bearings, Shafts, Seals

Responsibilities
Leads the development and strategies for new transmissions component and subsystem design projects including capturing requirements, aligning partner support, and performing strength and lifing analyses for high-performance gas turbine gears, bearings, shafts, and seals
As a trusted specialist, review and defend design solutions and technical work to program leadership and other stakeholders. Take a leadership role in investigations of in-service and/or development hardware issues including failure analysis, root cause / corrective action (RCCA), reporting, and documentation
Support the supply chain in procuring hardware including review of supplier production method documentation, assessment of non-conforming hardware, and review of supplier change proposals
Support the development and execution of strategies and new capabilities with respect to gas turbine power transmission components and systems. Proactively accesses internal and external networks of fellow specialists to further the understanding of the specialist subject; supports the implementation of strategic collaborative relationships
Supports the definition of skill and professional knowledge within transmissions; identifies, coordinates and delivers training; supports the development of other specialists; provides active coaching and mentoring to build team capability and bench strength
Leads the sharing of best practices and lessons learned; represents transmissions as an authority in their defined subject; provides concise justification for decisions; records and captures salient information in reports and systems
Qualification
Required
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, OR
Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering with 3+ years of experience in mechanical design, OR
PhD in Mechanical Engineering
To be considered for the role, you must be a US Citizen
Preferred
Demonstrated experience in the design, analysis, manufacture and verification of aerospace power transmission components and systems, including gearboxes, rolling element bearings, journal bearings, shafts, sumps, and seals
Experience with industry design methods and tools such as Shaberth, ROMAX, Gleason, KIMoS, etc
Experience with computational fluid dynamics analysis methods related to air and oil movement
Demonstrated experience in progressing designs/changes through a gated design review process
Expertise in dimensional tolerance stack-ups and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) including thermal effects on tolerances
Knowledge of gas turbine subsystems and components and their function and operation
Expertise in the following software applications: Siemens NX, Siemens Teamcenter, Microsoft Excel
