Seasonal Engineering Equipment Operator

National Park Service is seeking a Seasonal Engineering Equipment Operator. In this role, you will operate heavy engineering and construction equipment, perform grading on various terrains, and conduct pre-trip safety inspections on the equipment used for projects.

Responsibilities

Operates heavy gasoline or diesel-powered engineering and construction equipment
Grades surfaces on all types of terrains such as mountains and steep slopes, graded curves and shoulders, hilly forests, and rocky ground
Operates road graders, crawlers, tractors with bulldozers or angledozer blades, backhoes, front-end loaders, excavators, wheel loaders, trench diggers, skid steers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments
May operate motor vehicles with air brakes, multi-geared standard/auxiliary transmissions, automatic transmissions, and/or power take off that include truck tractors with semi-trailers or full trailers, flatbed trailers, fire engines, sewage tanker or pumper trucks, and water tankers
Operates forklift trucks over rough and sometimes muddy terrain through narrow aisles in inside and/or outside storage areas
Loads, secures, and drives equipment to and from project sites
Performs pre-trip safety inspections on engineering equipment

Required

U.S. Citizenship required
Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication
Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males
Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program
You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required
You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record
You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you
You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards
A uniform allowance will be provided
You may be required to work weekends, holidays, and overtime
You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 1 nights per month
Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority
