Lead Analyst, Shale Research
Rystad Energy is an independent energy research and business intelligence company seeking a lead analyst for their shale research team. The role involves analyzing the North American Land oil & gas market and conducting market research with minimal supervision, while also engaging with clients and presenting findings at various events.
Responsibilities
Serve as the lead researcher conducting market analysis and forecasts for the North American unconventional oil & gas space with minimal supervision
Solve clients' business problems by ad-hoc research, modeling and presentations with the use of Rystad Energy's products, data analysis, primary research through interviews, and data gathering from public and proprietary sources
Maintain and expand the network of primary intelligence sources in the oil and gas industry
Assist with business development activities by providing oil & gas market updates, explaining the methodology and research processes through virtual and in-person presentations at industry or Rystad Energy events
Guidance and mentorship of junior analysts covering North American oil & gas market
Qualification
Required
5 to 10 years of experience in oil and gas industry research, consulting / consulting-like environment, or oil & gas industry
University degree (Master's / Bachelor's) in a data-driven or energy field (mathematics, statistics, data analytics, petroleum engineering, business analytics) or MBA
Good knowledge of upstream landscape in North America onshore and understanding of the E&P strategy and business decision-making process
Working knowledge and understanding of the unconventional oil & gas space (basin supply fundamentals, drilling and completion cost structure, asset development, onshore project design)
Proficiency with Power Point, Excel and any business intelligence tool (Power BI, Spotfire, Tableau, QlikView)
Excellent writing, presentation and communication skills
Excellent team player with a sense of initiative
Preferred
Candidates with oil and gas onshore experience across multiple domains (E&P operations, supply chain) are preferred
Working knowledge of state data availability and reporting requirements from TX RRC, NDIC, PA DEP, NM OCD and other state energy agencies
Working knowledge of data availability and quality of relevant energy data sets from EIA (e.g. 860-M, STEO, PSM)
Ability to conduct interactive analysis of short-term oil & gas supply and activity developments using business intelligence tools
General experience with statistical analytics, including regression analysis, data smoothing, trend analysis, ANOVA
Proficiency with SQL and Python
Experience with any proprietary North America onshore well data software
Experience with any proprietary reservoir modeling or decline curve fitting software
