Interim Controller
Andrews & Cole, LLC is seeking an Interim Controller with Costpoint expertise to provide financial leadership for government contracting clients. The role involves overseeing accounting operations, ensuring compliance, and optimizing financial reporting during periods of transition or growth.
Responsibilities
Serve as the interim Controller for multiple government contracting clients, each with unique structures, contract portfolios, and operational needs
Rapidly assess each client’s accounting environment, identifying gaps, risks, and opportunities for improvement
Provide executive‑level financial guidance to client leadership teams, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance
Oversee full‑cycle accounting for each client, including GL, AP, AR, payroll, project accounting, and revenue recognition
Lead month‑end and year‑end close processes across multiple organizations, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements
Produce financial reporting packages tailored to each client’s leadership and board requirements
Manage external audits, DCAA interactions, and incurred cost submissions
Ensure each client maintains full compliance with FAR, DFARS, CAS, and DCAA requirements
Evaluate and refine indirect rate structures, cost pools, and allocation methodologies
Support pricing, proposals, and cost narratives for client bids and contract modifications
Serve as the Costpoint SME for all client engagements
Improve system configuration, workflows, and reporting to align with each client’s size, maturity, and contract mix
Lead system clean‑ups, module implementations, and integrations as needed
Train client teams on Costpoint best practices and internal controls
Build or refine accounting policies, internal controls, and financial procedures for each client
Implement scalable processes that support growth, audit readiness, and operational efficiency
Bridge gaps during leadership transitions, system upgrades, or rapid expansion
Mentor and guide client accounting teams, elevating capability and accountability
Partner with Contracts, HR, Program Management, and BD teams across multiple organizations
Provide clear communication and structured updates to client executives and stakeholders
Qualification
Required
7–12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant experience in government contracting
Strong proficiency with Deltek Costpoint (required)
Deep knowledge of FAR, DFARS, CAS, and DCAA audit requirements
Experience managing indirect rates, cost pools, and project accounting
Demonstrated success stepping into interim, fractional, or consulting roles
Ability to manage multiple clients simultaneously with strong prioritization and communication skills
Exceptional analytical, organizational, and leadership capabilities
Preferred
CPA or MBA
Experience with T&M, CPFF, FFP, and IDIQ contract types
Prior experience in a high‑growth GovCon environment or with PE‑backed companies
Experience implementing or optimizing Costpoint modules
