Assistant Director of Juvenile Justice Services

Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office is seeking an Assistant Director of Juvenile Justice Services to oversee the daily operations and strategic direction of their juvenile services departments. The role involves ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, managing quality assurance programs, and collaborating with various stakeholders to support juvenile detention program participants.

Responsibilities

Under administrative direction of the Director of Juvenile Justice Services (JJS), performs work of considerable difficulty in overseeing the daily operations, strategic direction, and financial solvency of three departments, including the Juvenile Detention Home, Chesterfield Adolescent Resource Pathways (CARP) and the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC)
Oversees quality assurance programs and ensures policies, procedures, and practices are in adherence to all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and that all three departments maintain licensure and accreditation
Supports Juvenile Justice Services administrators in conducting investigations and recommends resolutions to JJS Director
Oversees medical program and services for residents of the Juvenile Detention Home
Prepares reports and maintains data essential for management of operations
Oversees contracted and specialized juvenile detention programs in partnership with the Department of Juvenile Justice
Consults and collaborates with mental health staff, Juvenile Detention Education Program staff, court officials including the judiciary, and Department of Juvenile Justice staff to ensure juvenile detention program participants are receiving services in accordance with individualized service plans and in accordance with Memoranda of Agreement with the Department of Juvenile Justice
Represents the department at local and state meetings on behalf of and at discretion of Director

Required

Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, psychology, or other related social sciences field
Five years of experience in juvenile services, corrections, social services or a related field, including two years of increasingly responsible administrative experience
Two years in a supervisory or leadership role
Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, standards/regulations, and funding streams for juvenile detention, contracts with the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ), community-based juvenile justice programs provided through the Virginia Community Crime Control Act (VJCCCA), and the Children's Advocacy Center (CAC)
Knowledge of evidence-based programming and practices
Ability to plan, organize, direct, coordinate and administer the services and programs of the Juvenile Detention Home, Chesterfield Adolescent Resource Pathways (CARP), and the CAC
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders, including juveniles, family members, court officials, law enforcement, human service agencies, school personnel, community agency representatives, and DJJ officials
Considerable skill in making complex and critical decisions sufficient to ensure legal, professional and administrative requirements are met
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external customers, utilizing data to drive decisions
Proven ability to plan, direct, manage and evaluate the work of department staff
Current valid driver's license and good driving record required
Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required
