Responsibilities
Work with NSB departments to help achieve environmental compliance
Daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual inspections of NSB tanks, facilities, and other NSB activities
Assist in the implementation of the compliance measures required by EPA, DEC, and other regulatory agencies
Help investigate complaints and suspected violations regarding environmental issues, such as illegal dumping
Assist in the development and submission of annual waste manifest and inventory reports
Help with the verification of how hazardous chemicals are handled, stored, and disposed of in accordance with regulations
May include travel to Utqiagvik and off-slope
Other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
High school or G.E.D/or a combination of 12 years education and related work experience
Resources Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) training will be required within 3 months of hire
Additional environmental training will be provided and required within six months of hire
Valid Alaska Drivers License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria
Basic knowledge of and passion for keeping the environment clean, fostering a strong environmental ethic within others in the NSB, and promoting strict environmental compliance with DEC and EPA statutes and regulations
Basic knowledge of data entry and organization
Basic understanding of inspection techniques, including phone photography, documentation, critical observation skills, and reporting
Ability to effectively communicate, both written and orally, with staff, industry, and government
Willingness to learn
