Strategic Communication Specialist
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is a federal law enforcement agency responsible for securing the nation's borders. The Strategic Communication Specialist will play a key role in developing and implementing communication strategies to inform audiences about CBP programs and initiatives while collaborating with various teams to enhance internal and external communication effectiveness.

Responsibilities
Assessing, developing, implementing and evaluating the effectiveness of internal and external communication and engagement strategies, materials, and programs
Writing internal and external publications and briefs to keep audiences informed about current CBP programs, priorities, and initiatives with minimal guidance and edits
Analyzing policies to identify and anticipate internal and external communication needs
Working in conjunction with higher graded individuals identifying, recommending, and demonstrating effective methods and techniques for managers and supervisors to use in improving communications in day-to-day operations

Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 01/16/2026

Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Planning and executing various programs and activities which support the mission through strategic analysis and collaboration to meet the various division goals. Managing high-visibility projects and various tasks clearly communicating across the Division with accuracy, forward-thinking, and diplomacy. Communicating and coordinating across HRM to ensure cross-divisional networking. Analyzing and evaluating the effectiveness of communication programs and products and recommending specific solutions tailored to the nature of the issues encountered and the targeted audiences
Background Investigation: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is a federal law enforcement agency that requires all applicants to undergo a thorough background investigation prior to employment
Residency: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates for at least three of the last five years
Probationary Period: All employees new to the federal government must serve a one year probationary period during the first year of his/her initial permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment
