The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is looking to hire a Bridge and Structural Drafter for the Department of Transportation. This role involves creating and preparing a diverse range of bridge and structural plans, maps, and related drawings, while utilizing CADD tools and traditional drafting methods.

Responsibilities

Employ Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) to create detailed technical drawings for bridges and other structural elements

Drafting and detailing tasks that contribute to the development of moderately complex final plans based on preliminary sketches, existing highway and bridge plans, as well as field survey data

Work on structures including reinforced concrete box culverts, simple span bridges, metal plate culverts, multi-span bridges, and various bridge rehabilitation projects ranging from simple to moderately complex

Undertake a diverse array of drafting and minor design tasks under the professional supervision of a bridge and structural designer, civil engineer, or draftsman

Utilize CADD tools or traditional drafting methods, which will require preparing and verifying mathematical calculations, as well as establishing horizontal and vertical alignments and drainage parameters through mathematical formulas

Apply knowledge of algebra, plane geometry, and trigonometry to perform calculations necessary for computing plan quantities and executing structural drafting with minimal oversight

Participate in field inspections of bridges related to rehabilitation and replacement projects, developing inspection notes and sketches with limited guidance from professional staff

Review and verify the accuracy and detailing of bridge and structure plans completed by others, providing support and mentorship to junior staff members

Strive to meet or exceed the expected performance outcomes for the current evaluation cycle

Required

One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or

Two years of experience in a variety of drafting assignments, one of which shall have been in bridge and structural drafting, including six months CADD experience or training, and graduation from high school; or

One year of experience in bridge and structural drafting and detailing assignments including six months of CADD experience or training and an Associate's Degree in civil engineering, drafting, or design technology; or

Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training
