Responsibilities

You will produce various types of heavy forgings occasionally exceeding 500 pounds using stock with a cross-sectional area of 28 square inches or more
You will produce forgings of all forgeable material, ferrous and non-ferrous, using power hammers, presses or hand tools, as needed
You will perform forging operations such as drawing; upsetting, bending, twisting, scoring, backing, rolling, beveling, and punching billets and ingots of metal
You will utilize welding machinery to weld various types of metal
You will work from blueprints, sample parts, templates, sketches or verbal instructions, to lay out metal to be forged
You will select appropriate stock and cut it to size by sawing, shearing or hacking
You will bring stock to forging temperature at proper rate without impairing the stock
You will decide when stock is ready for forging, remove stock from furnace and place it on hammer block
You will handle and manipulate the workpiece using forging tools to produce the required dimensions and contours
You will use measure devices to ensure correct dimensions
You will make your own forging tools and dies
You will assemble forged parts, as needed
You will assist crafts persons from other trades, as directed

Must be a US Citizen
Must be determined suitable for federal employment
Must participate in the direct deposit pay program
New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check

You may be required perform occasional travel
You will be required to work outdoors in all weather conditions
You will be exposed to high heat, toxic fumes, smoke, dust, and dirt
You will handle tools up to 100 lbs
You must be able to distinguish colors and shades of colors
Your resume must show that you have the ability to perform the work of a WG-3801-11 Metal Forger and Welder as demonstrated by experience performing using sound knowledge of forging and welding to perform metal forging and welding work
Producing forgings of all forgeable material, ferrous and non-ferrous, using power hammers, presses or hand tools, as needed
Performing forging operations such as drawing; upsetting, bending, twisting, scoring, backing, rolling, beveling, and punching billets and ingots of metal
Reading blueprints, specifications, sketches and templates
Using arithmetic, solid geometry and other practical mathematics
Laying out work, make templates, jigs, fixtures and forge tools, and measuring devices
Operating shears, saws, trimming press, and power hammers
Choosing the best method for the job at hand, solve work problems by manipulating the work piece and tools to achieve the desired shape to the work piece
Showing the ability to forge/manufacture of a historic nature such as cutlasses and other historical period pieces
