Seasonal Computer Assistant

Responsibilities
Supports information technology operations at a unit. Work includes limited phases of computer technology functions in support of personal computers (PC's)
Installs and tests PC's and associated peripheral devices in accordance with manuals and instructions. Troubleshoots commonly occurring problems and assists users in resolving them. Refers highly technical difficulties to a computer specialist
Prepares minor programs such as batch programs. Makes simple program revisions and validates existing programs by updating and revising instructions, as needed
Supports subject matter specialists by entering and retrieving information from a PC, formatting reports using standard software, and recommending use of available systems
Orders supplies, arranges for equipment repairs, and maintains files associated with equipment, records, and equipment maintenance
Verifies output data so that format, quantity, and print quality are adequate and as required. Notifies users of changed priorities and status of their work, and when high priority work is completed
Traces and documents existing and proposed workflow with software systems planned and designed by others
Provides information technology assistance to personal computer (PC) users at the unit, including users with special requirement items
Installs and tests PC's and their associated peripheral devices. Troubleshoots reported problems and resolves or orders repair service from a local vendor
Provides support for standard National Park Service software programs. Installs and tests package software and utilities (e.g., batch files, menu programs, memory managers or other National Park Service approved software)
Provides instruction in the use of existing hardware or upon installation
May provide network support and cabling to the Local Area Network (LAN)
Provides instruction and training to PC users in the use of software and/or basic personal computer concepts. Provides assistance, when required or requested, in preparing hardware for use in training sessions, either on-site or off-site. May also load software on PC's for training
Assists users in making connection to mainframe computers at remote sites in order to use centralized programs (e.g., FFS, PROP, FPPS, etc.). May modify or develop new applications programs to meet users needs, using existing software

Incidental Driving: You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties
Minimum Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least (1) 18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program
To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one or all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: Have at least one year of full-time specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in the federal service. Specialized experience is limited phases of computer technology functions in support of personal computers (PCs), installs and tests PCs and associated peripheral devices in accordance with manuals and instructions, and troubleshoots commonly occurring problems and assists users in resolving them
EDUCATION: Have successfully competed 4 years of education above high school. Note: This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university
Combination: Have a combination of specialist experience and education. For example I have 6 months of specialized experience (50% of the experience requirement), and 90 semester hours above high school (50% of the qualifying education)
To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one or all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: Have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector). Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position
There is no substitution of education for experience at the GS/7 grade level of this announcement
