Engineering Technician II - USCG C5I Systems

Akima Systems Engineering (ASE) is seeking an experienced Engineering Technician II to support U.S. Coast Guard modernization efforts. This role involves the installation, testing, and documentation of communications and electronic systems aboard USCG cutters and shore facilities, ensuring adherence to technical standards and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

Perform installation, removal, modification, and testing of C5I, RF, and communications systems aboard USCG cutters
Install and terminate RF, coaxial, and data cabling in accordance with USCG and NAVSEA standards
Execute Pre-Installation Test and Checkout (PITCO), Basic Functionality and Interconnection Tests (BFIT), and System Operational Verification Tests (SOVT)
Support antenna installations, cable routing, grounding, bonding, and weatherproofing
Program radios and communications equipment as required by Technical Instructions
Document work performed, discrepancies, and conditions found using official USCG forms and reports (e.g., CFRs, SOVTs, DD 1348, SFLC forms)
Assist with inventory, verification, and accountability of Government Furnished Equipment (GFE)
Participate in shipboard in-briefs and out-briefs with cutter command staff
Adhere to all safety, security, and access requirements while working aboard cutters and government facilities
Travel to multiple CONUS locations to support installation schedules

Required

Associate's degree in Electronics, Engineering Technology, or related field or equivalent hands-on experience
Minimum 2-4 years of experience supporting electronics or communications systems (military, government, or maritime preferred)
Experience working with RF systems, cabling, connectors, and antennas
Ability to read and follow technical drawings, schematics, and installation procedures
Comfortable working aboard vessels in operational environments
Ability to travel extensively (up to 50%)
U.S. Citizen
Ability to obtain USCG suitability / background clearance

Preferred

Prior U.S. Coast Guard, Navy, or other DoD experience
Experience supporting cutter, shipboard, or maritime installations
Familiarity with USCG C5I systems, TCTOs, and SFLC standards
Experience with VHF/UHF radios and associated programming
Knowledge of shipboard grounding, bonding, and EMI/EMC best practices
