Program Assistant - After School

The Town of Huntersville is seeking a Program Assistant for their After School program at the Recreation Center. The role involves leading activities for K-5th grade students, assisting with homework, and ensuring the safety and supervision of participants.

Responsibilities

Assists Recreation Manager and Recreation Assistants with camp or afterschool programs
Organizes rooms and materials before participants arrive each day
Plans and lead snack time, group activities, and assists with homework or other activities as needed
Actively participates with participants, supervising their conduct, discipline and safety
Follows proper check in/out procedures, communicates with parents or guardians at pick up
Notifies supervisor of accidents, incidents, disciplinary actions, and other circumstances of concern and fills out necessary forms for documentation as needed
May assist with other recreation programs including overnight teen camping trips, sports practices, events, and/or childcare during adult classes
Works to ensure responsible safety, care, and supervision of all participants
Organizes, prepares, and cleans the recreation center as needed each day before and after program hours
Performs other duties as assigned

Required

General knowledge of childcare practices and techniques
General knowledge of children's developmental and social growth expectations and needs
Some knowledge of health, safety and first aid practices, methods and techniques
Skill in working with children
Ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, associates and program participants
High school diploma or GED
Availability Monday – Friday from 2:00pm – 6:00pm
Physical requirements involve medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
Ability to perform physical abilities such as balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, manual dexterity, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, and/or walking

Preferred

Availability to work full days when school is out of session for teacher workdays
Availability Monday – Friday from 7:00am – 5:00pm for Summer Camp
Occasional overnight travel
Possess or obtain a CDL license if assigned as bus driver, or in certain counselor positions
