This role offers hands-on experience in teaching labs, supporting faculty and students while developing practical skills in science education.

Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the Laboratory Assistant is to support faculty during teaching labs
Answering student questions regarding lab activities
Providing guidance with laboratory set up and procedures
Offering support with laboratory setup and ensuring all procedures are followed accurately
Promoting and maintaining proper laboratory practices
Maintaining cleanliness of lab space by performing basic housekeeping tasks
Restocking supplies as needed to ensure a smooth flow of the lab session
Monitoring and enforcing adherence to all safety protocols
Assisting faculty with material preparation before their assigned lab sections
Setting up lab stations
Ensuring proper lab maintenance
Restocking inventory as required
Qualification
Required
Must be a currently enrolled UM-Flint student or recently graduated, within the last 6 months
Successful completion and understanding of the course that is being assigned, equivalent experience, or higher level biology labs
A demonstrated ability to apply laboratory safety rules
Must be friendly and approachable to all members of the classroom
Recommendation by a Biology Department lab instructor
Preferred
Excellent communication skills
A strong understanding of the material being presented
Ability to troubleshoot issues that may arise in the lab
