The State of Washington's Attorney General's Office is seeking a dedicated and experienced leader for the Torts Division. The Managing Assistant Attorney General 1 will lead a team handling complex litigation, mentor legal professionals, and contribute to the professional development of the team while representing state agencies in tort lawsuits.

Responsibilities

Lead and manage a Tumwater Torts litigation team consisting of 6 attorneys and 11 professional staff
Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to attorneys of varying experience levels as they handle a diverse range of legal matters
Shape division-wide goals and strategies to enhance client representation and professional development
Collaborate with other leaders within the Torts Division to develop and implement strategies for improving the work environment and achieving client goals
Serve as a key point of contact for cases managed by your team and provide updates and input on the work being done
Maintain a diverse and complex litigation caseload, conducting witness interviews, handling discovery (including depositions), retaining and preparing experts, and developing trial strategies

Required

An expressed interest in the practice of public sector law
Excellent writing and oral advocacy skills
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Judgment and discretion in handling sensitive issues
Extensive mediation experience
Litigation experience, in particular as insurance defense counsel
Graduated from a law school accredited by the ABA or completed the WSBA's Rule 6 Law Clerk Program
Licensed to practice law in Washington state

Preferred

Torts litigation experience, while advantageous, is not essential
Relevant subject matter experience may be helpful but is not required
