Transportation Engineering Technician III

The Maryland Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Engineering Technician III to join their State Highway Administration team. This role involves serving as a Project Engineer or inspector on road and bridge construction projects, providing technical guidance, and ensuring proper documentation of the construction process.

Responsibilities

Serve as a Project Engineer on small size road or bridge construction projects of relatively low complexity, and/or an inspector on larger more complex construction projects
Provide guidance, technical assistance, direction, and solutions to construction and/or engineering related issues
Direct and monitor the complete and accurate documentation of the construction process, ensuring that all files are current and all progress estimates are accurate
Instruct and mentor lower-level technicians in basic plan reading, proper construction inspection methods, and testing methods for materials used in highway and bridge construction

Required

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate
Three (3) years of experience in technical engineering related work in the areas of design, traffic, construction, materials testing, engineering surveys, maintenance, or planning
Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland
The selected candidate will be required to pass the Quality Assurance/Quality Control Certifications (Soils, Concrete and Hot Mix Asphalt must be obtained within the probationary period)
Must be available and willing to accept assignments in District 6 (Allegany, Garrett, Washington counties)
Must be available and willing to work shift work, nights, overtime or weekends as necessary
