Sign & Marking Technician I

NEOGOV is seeking a Sign & Marking Technician I to perform skilled, technical, and physical work related to the fabrication, layout, installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signs and pavement markings within the City of Kissimmee. Responsibilities

Construct, layout, install, maintain and repair various signs within city-maintained roadways, parks, and buildings. This includes Regulatory, Warning, Guide signs and special customized signs within and around city official buildings
Layout, install and maintain pavement markings using current governmental standards on city-maintained roadways
Set-up and maintenance of traffic control devices to provide safe work zones on roads and highways. Serves as flagger for other members of the traffic division, or in emergency situations, as needed Countywide. Places and removes traffic cones, barricades, flags, signs, and other traffic control devices
Trims shrubbery at/around signage that can cause occlusions/obstructions
Loads and unloads equipment and materials
Mixes traffic paints and melts thermoplastic materials
Operates various signs and pavement markings equipment; thermo truck, thermo handliner, paint machine, pavement grinder, and heat torch
Stocks signs and markings material
Fill out work orders and other paperwork
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the Division, Department, or related units
Maintains vehicles and equipment
Performs other duties as assigned

Required

Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by 1 year of experience and/or training in the installation and maintenance of traffic signs and pavement markings, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
Must have or be able to obtain Certification as an IMSA Level I Signs and Markings Technician within one year of hire date
Safety/Work Zone (MOT) Certification and Forklift Operator Certification within 6 months of hire date
Must have a valid drivers license
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Class 'B' Commercial driver's license with air brake endorsement or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date
Must possess or have the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date the most current FEMA 100, 200, and 700 Incident Command System Certifications
Has knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of the Public Works and Engineering Department as they pertain to the performance and duties of the Sign/Marking Technician I
Is knowledgeable in the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position
Has knowledge of traffic signs and markings, and the materials and equipment used in the installation, maintenance and repair of traffic signs and road striping
Has knowledge of all applicable codes and regulations
Has knowledge of modern office practices and technology
Has the ability to perform required mathematical computations with accuracy and in a timely manner
Has knowledge of the computer and other technical terminology used within the department; has skill in the use of computers for data and word processing, database management and signal programming
Is skilled in applying a responsible attention to detail as necessary in preparing reports and records
Is able to read and interpret a variety of materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job
Is able to analyze problems that arise on the job and prepare related reports and recommendations
Is able to maintain records accurately
Is able to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision
Is able to use independent judgment in performing routine tasks
Has the ability to plan, organize and prioritize daily assignments and work activities
Is able to provide assistance to various departments, supervisors, co-workers and the general public as needed
Has the ability to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency

Has skill in the care and use of required tools and equipment
Is able to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment
Must be physically able to operate a vehicle, truck, and a variety of machines and equipment including a computer, telephone, calculator, signal diagnostic and control equipment, fork lift, etc
Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds) and occasionally heavy objects and materials (up to 100 pounds)
Maintains high standards of accuracy in exercising duties and responsibilities
Exercises immediate remedial action to correct any quality deficiencies that occur in areas of responsibility
Maintains high quality communication and interaction with internal and external entities with whom the position interacts
Performs described Essential Functions and related assignments efficiently and effectively in order to produce quantity of work which consistently meets established standards and expectations

Completes assigned work within deadlines in accordance with directives, policy, standards and prescribed procedures
