Resident Engineer - Construction

Tetra Tech is seeking an on-site Resident Engineer (Construction) to support major water and wastewater infrastructure projects near Suffolk, Virginia. The role involves coordinating construction activities, managing project representatives, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

Coordinate construction activities on site with the contractor, owner, and major subcontractors and suppliers
Review and manage shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs, ensuring timely input from all engineering disciplines
Lead, manage and coordinate Resident Project Representatives (RPRs), geotechnical and materials testing firm(s), and 3rd party Inspectors to track progress and resolve field issues
Maintain communication between design engineers, contractors, and owners to ensure work conforms with plans and specifications
Monitor schedules, support progress reporting, and assist with cost tracking and documentation
In collaboration with the Engineer of Record (EOR), provide engineering or construction experience and judgment to resolve field conflicts and ensure technical accuracy
Uphold Tetra Tech’s safety, quality, and compliance standards on all project sites

Qualification

Required

Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, or related discipline) or Construction Management
5+ years of relevant construction management experience, ideally in water/wastewater or infrastructure projects
Proven ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams during submittal and RFI review cycles
Strong communication and organizational skills
Valid driver's license and clean driving record
Must be able to work full-time on site near Suffolk, VA and support other projects in the Hampton Roads area

Preferred

Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
