Senior Structural Engineer

Responsibilities

Initiate and develop planning and scope development of new projects using broad technical skills
Visit bridge and tunnel sites, assess existing conditions and constraints, and review available technical reports, shop drawings, and as-built drawings
Develop conceptual designs to modify existing structures to align with updated requirements
Assess potential needs to strengthen existing bridge components and/or add new components
Perform necessary engineering calculations
Develop conceptual drawing sets and reports describing project background, objectives, design requirements, applicable codes, standards, and proposed solutions
Prepare preliminary engineering cost estimates
Coordinate with Bridges & Tunnels staff, participate in meetings, and prepare documentation and reports

New York State PE licenseCivil/structural design experienceMicrosoft ExcelScope developmentCommunication skills

Required

Bachelor's degree in Engineering
Minimum fifteen (15) years of civil/structural design experience
Minimum five (5) years of related management experience
Valid driver's license for use in the State of New York
New York State Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) license
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

Preferred

Master's degree
Experience in scope development, writing specifications, and working with technical standards and design guidelines
Familiarity with design procedures

Technical Certification Bonus: Synectics is pleased to award its employees a bonus of up to $500 for an approved professional certification. In determining the bonus amount, Synectics will consider the cost of the test(s) for any certification relating to your current position, achieved during your employment with us. Only one Certification Bonus per calendar year may be awarded per employee. Only current, active employees will be eligible to receive this bonus. It will be awarded 90 days after the Synectics office has received documentation confirming the successful completion of the certification.
