Responsibilities
Oversee all core revenue cycle functions, including patient access, benefit eligibility, charge capture, coding support, billing, follow-up, and collections
Evaluate, redesign, document, and maintain workflows across front-end and back-end processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and cash flow
Identify and address root causes of rejections, denials, delays, and underpayments, with particular attention to ophthalmology-specific services, procedures, and payer rules
Ensure strong coordination between scheduling, clinical and ASC documentation, coding, and billing to support clean claims and timely reimbursement
Oversee payer management and contracting
Develop and refine revenue cycle reporting that provides clear, actionable insights for leadership and physicians
Establish consistent KPIs such as days in A/R, rejection and denial rates, net collection rate, charge lag, and payment variance by payer and service line
Translate data into meaningful narratives that help leadership understand performance trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement
Partner with the CFO on forecasting, cash flow management, and strategic initiatives tied to revenue performance
Lead, mentor, and develop a dedicated team across billing, patient access, and collections
Create clarity around roles, expectations, and accountability while fostering a collaborative, supportive team culture
Build standardized training, onboarding, and performance management processes to support consistency and professional growth
Serve as a visible, approachable leader who balances high standards with empathy and support
Ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer requirements, including ophthalmology-specific coding and documentation standards
Partner closely with physicians and clinical leaders to improve documentation quality, workflow efficiency, and overall patient experience
Act as a trusted advisor to providers, helping bridge clinical realities with revenue cycle best practices
Qualification
Required
Significant experience leading revenue cycle operations within ophthalmology, multispecialty, or procedure-driven physician practices
Proven track record of process improvement, reporting enhancement, and team development
Strong understanding of payer dynamics, denials management, and compliance in an eye care setting
Ability to operate comfortably at both a strategic and hands-on operational level
