Secretary 2 (ASL/English Bilingual)(Hybrid)

The Connecticut Department of Administrative Services is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Secretary 2 to support the day-to-day operations of their team at the Bureau of Services for Persons Who Are Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing. This role involves facilitating communication in both American Sign Language and English, providing administrative support, and managing office procedures.

Responsibilities

Facilitate seamless communication between staff and external stakeholders using your professional fluency in both American Sign Language (ASL) and English
Provide comprehensive administrative support to ensure the efficient and smooth day-to-day operations of the office
Draft, edit, and proofread a wide range of written materials, including reports, meeting minutes, and professional correspondence
Organize and manage meetings, schedules, and various office procedures to support the team's mission and goals

Required

Proven experience in a secretarial role
Strong organizational skills
Excellent communication abilities
Professional fluency in both American Sign Language (ASL) and English
Three (3) years of experience above the routine clerk level in office support or secretarial work
One (1) year of the General Experience must have been as a Secretary 1 or its equivalent
Considerable knowledge of office systems and procedures
Considerable knowledge of proper grammar, punctuation and spelling
Knowledge of business communications
Knowledge of department's/unit's policies and procedures
Knowledge of business math
Interpersonal skills
Oral and written communication skills
Ability to schedule and prioritize office workflow
Ability to operate office equipment which includes computers, tablets, and other electronic equipment
Ability to operate office suite software
Ability to take notes (shorthand, speedwriting or other method acceptable to the supervisor)

Preferred

Bilingual in American Sign Language (ASL) and English, with experience communicating across both languages in professional settings
Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams, including scheduling and participating in virtual meetings
Experience in notetaking and drafting meeting minutes
Experience communicating with internal and external stakeholders
Experience compiling and analyzing data
