Mosquito-Borne Disease Program Coordinator
Union County is seeking a qualified and motivated Mosquito-Borne Disease Program Coordinator to support public health and vector control efforts throughout the County. This technical position focuses on mosquito surveillance, identification, and control, along with public education and coordination with state and local agencies to reduce the risk of mosquito-borne diseases.
Government Administration
Responsibilities
Conduct field surveillance, identification, and collection of mosquitoes and ticks for disease testing
Safely use insecticides, sampling, and control equipment in compliance with Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and Department of Environmental Protection regulations
Prepare mosquito and arthropod samples for laboratory processing
Enter and maintain accurate sampling and environmental data in multi-agency databases
Analyze mosquito population data to determine appropriate control measures
Perform mosquito control activities and assist with program planning and innovation
Coordinate surveillance and control efforts with DEP and other partner agencies
Prepare reports and analyses related to vector-borne diseases
Communicate effectively with supervisors, County officials, partner agencies, and the public, including providing educational outreach
Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, regulations, and best practices; attend trainings and conferences as appropriate
Operate computers and standard office and field equipment to complete assigned duties
Ability to lift and carry pesticide bags (approximately 40 pounds) and spray equipment weighing 40–50 pounds
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or a related field
Valid Pennsylvania driver's license
Ability to obtain and maintain a Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator License (Category 16 – Invertebrate Public Health and Core Competencies)
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and uneven terrain
Exposure to environmental factors such as heat, humidity, chemicals, wildlife, and other field hazards
Ability to perform light to medium physical work, including lifting and carrying equipment
