Responsibilities
Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, A/P, A/R, payroll, and cash management
Lead month-end and year-end close processes and prepare internal financial statements
Ensure compliance with GAAP, institutional policy, and regulatory requirements
Manage financial controls and maintain process documentation
Coordinate audit activities and serve as primary liaison for internal and external auditors
Lead annual budget development for academic departments, administrative units, clinics, and programs
Monitor expenditures, analyze variances, and recommend corrective actions
Develop multi-year financial plans and long-range forecasts to support strategic priorities
Advise Deans, Chairs, and administrative leaders on financial implications of operational decisions
Oversee accounting and reporting for restricted, endowed, and sponsored funds
Ensure compliance with donor intent, sponsor requirements, and institutional policies
Collaborate with Research Administration and Development functions on budgeting and fund usage
Prepare financial reporting for grant sponsors, donors, and institutional leadership
Maintain and enforce financial policies, procedures, and internal controls
Support federal, state, and institutional reporting requirements
Partner with central finance, HR, procurement, and treasury functions as needed
Monitor risk and compliance areas related to fiscal operations
Supervise finance and accounting staff, providing mentoring, coaching, and professional development
Present financial analysis and insights to senior leadership and faculty committees
Serve as a resource and advisor to academic and administrative units on fiscal operations
Promote effective financial practices and literacy among non-financial stakeholders
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required
8–10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience; higher education or nonprofit preferred
Knowledge of fund accounting, grant compliance, and restricted fund management
Experience with ERP and financial reporting systems (e.g., Workday, Banner, Oracle, SAP, PeopleSoft)
Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
Ability to lead, develop, and inspire teams in a mission-driven environment
Preferred
CPA, MBA, or equivalent credential strongly preferred
