Mechanical Engineering Intern - Summer 2026

CACI International Inc is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineering Intern for the summer of 2026 to assist Senior Mechanical Engineers in the development of new products. The role involves working with a cross-functional team to create and evaluate designs using SolidWorks CAD software and conducting environmental testing of prototype assemblies.

Responsibilities

Using SolidWorks CAD software to translate 3D Models into 2D component drawings and 2D manufacturing assembly drawings, as well as 3D design of assembly fixtures for manufacturing use
Using SolidWorks Flow Simulation to iterate 3D model features for optimized performance
Evaluating prototype parts and possible hand modifying parts to achieve proper form, fix and function
Environmental testing of prototype assemblies for performance and reliability
Identifying alternate Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) parts

Required

Must be currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related degree field
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future
Demonstrate your ability to thrive in both collaborative team environments and independent projects
Showcase excellent communication skills and a respectful attitude that fosters a positive work culture
Bring your expertise in SolidWorks CAD software to life in practical applications
Apply your knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (ASME Y14.5-2018) to precision engineering tasks
Navigate the world of machine shop tools with confidence and a keen eye for safety
Leverage your hands-on experience in mechanical assembly to contribute to groundbreaking projects

Preferred

Proficiency with SolidWorks Flow Simulation Software
Competence in using basic metrology equipment
Knowledge of 3D printing technologies
Hands-on experience in machining, metal working, and plastic injection molding processes
