The Environmental Services Technician III is responsible for performing high-level disinfectant cleaning tasks and maintaining critical patient areas to ensure a clean and safe environment.

Responsibilities

Perform high-level time-sensitive disinfectant cleaning tasks to maintain critical patient areas
Assist in all activities of the Environmental Services (EVS) department with primary duties being floor care maintenance, inventory control, EVS Tech’s computer software, and database training and support
Provide a clean, sanitary, disinfected, and safe environment to reduce the spread of disease/illness
Perform light repair and routine maintenance on EVS powered cleaning equipment, lubricating automatic scrubbers, changing pads, installing, replacing filters, and checking batteries on equipment
Empty cleaning agents from machines and rinse out after use
Perform and document equipment and chemical safety inspections
Operate all equipment with care and according to facility and manufacturers safety standards and procedures
Report malfunction of powered equipment to manager to prevent injury to operator or further damage to equipment
Maintain inventory control of supplies and report items that need to be purchased to the manager
Complete special environmental services-related projects and other specialty task, including specialized cleaning duties as assigned
Perform basic floor care using dry or wet mops, floor scrubbers, and vacuums
Scrub, strip, finish, shampoo, and deodorize carpeted areas and polish patient room floor on a rotation basis
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of cleaning chemicals and the appropriate use and proper dilution methods
Use chemicals in a safe manner; always use dispensers correctly to fill labeled bottles and containers with correct chemicals as trained
Conduct environmental services pre-surveys pertaining to potential health and environmental hazards with high quality and minimal supervision
Monitor vendor activities and services on job sites to assure compliance with relevant contract agreements
Communicate effectively to resolve observations of unsafe acts or procedures
Participate in departmental performance improvement initiatives including, but not limited to, initiatives to improve HCAHPS scores as it relates to hospital cleanliness
Provide computer assistance and support to EVS Techs related to Employee engagement platform, NOVAtime, Paylocity, NetLearning, etc
Provide back-up support to and assist with the duties of the Environmental Services Technician I, EVS Tech II, and Floor Techs as requested
Assist with setting up for special events, meetings, seminars, educational/training programs, and other assignments according to work orders as assigned
Move and set up furniture and equipment within rooms for cleaning purposes as needed
Safely and securely collect and transport medical waste throughout the facility; sanitize biowaste containers and ensure medical waste storage areas are always secured
Monitor the delivery and removal of containers to and from the facility by the contractor
Follow departmental procedures when handling biohazardous waste, ensuring that all red bags are tied off and/or taped as per Infection Control policies and procedures
Observe and report the need for repairs to equipment, furniture, building, and fixtures by way of submitting help desk tickets via Theworkhub
Attend internal meetings and in-services and participate in mandatory reviews of policies and procedures
Prepare and maintain necessary reports and records as required
Wear proper protective equipment and follow the appropriate guidelines
Promote teamwork daily, communicate, and report problems and concerns to the Manager
Perform other related job duties as assigned

Required

High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Basic computer skills to include the ability to utilize email and complete computer-based training courses with minimal assistance
DOT certification for Hazardous Waste required within 90 days of hire
Three years' related work Experience with various cleaning equipment in preferably a healthcare or related industry setting
