Responsibilities
Serve as a direct primary health care provider in the capacity of a credentialed Nurse Practitioner to provide primary care services
Health management with responsibility for the independent examination, diagnosis, and treatment within personal credentials and privileges delineated by the Military Treatment Facility (MTF)
Perform a variety of complex duties involving the full range of medical care that involves isolating and defining unknown medical conditions
Secure health and medical history from the patient or family member, record findings and make clinical evaluations
Plan with other professionals, and agencies involved in providing primary care services to patients and their family members, and coordinates the primary care provided
Examine patient and performs initial patient work-up and assessment of patient's care and treatment; determines the need for and orders laboratory tests, X-rays and other procedures necessary to complete assessment of the patient
Prescribe for and treat a variety of diseases, disorders and injuries, treats patients returning for routine or directed follow-up and treatment of chronic illnesses previously documented in patients’ medical records
Participate in disease management which includes the following conditions: hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes mellitus, coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure and/or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Qualification
Required
A graduate or higher level degree from an accredited professional nursing educational program in Advanced Nurse Practitioner is required
Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools
A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States
A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse in the specialty of Family Practice Nurse Practitioner or related specialty
One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes obtaining and recording health histories of patients, prescribing medications and providing explanation of laboratory and diagnostic test results in patient population 50 and older
Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation
Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption
This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing
A pre-placement medical examination is required
Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact
Moderate to heavy lifting up to 15 pounds is required
Position is designated as Mission Essential. The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations
Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions
