Director, Risk Management - Aerospace

They are seeking a Director in their Corporate Risk Management/Treasury team to lead global insurance programs, manage relationships with brokers and insurers, and develop risk financing strategies while fostering talent development within the team.

Responsibilities
Global Insurance Programs - lead the strategy, analysis, and placement of all global insurance programs most importantly the aviation product liability, ensuring cost-effective coverage aligned with enterprise risk appetite, responsible for the overall global relationships with insurance companies, brokers and captive managers
Relationship Management - manage relationships with brokers, insurers, and TPAs; lead negotiations to optimize policy terms, pricing, and claims resolution
Enterprise Risk-Financing Strategy – lead cross-functional reviews (Treasury, Tax, Legal) to optimize use of insurance, premium/fee allocation management, and balance-sheet risk-retention, ensuring alignment with the company’s overall risk appetite
Talent Development – Foster knowledge transfer and develop word class Risk Management talent while promoting a strong performance culture and achieving best in class results
Board & Audit-Committee Liaison – support annual insurance-program summaries, loss-forecast analyses, and emerging-risk insights to the Audit & Risk Committee; recommend policy or retention changes
Manage all aspects of domestic and international product/general liability, aviation products liability, auto liability, excess/umbrella liability, director and officer’s/financial lines, professional/cyber, worker’s compensation, business travel accident, M&A activity, marine/transit/cargo, property and environmental insurance programs
Manage and consult on all insurance claims
Interact, consult and advise with the Law Department, Health & Safety, Business Finance and law departments, Treasury, Controllers, Human Resources, Procurement, Contract Managers, outside defense law firms, state and governmental agencies, auditors, actuaries, industry consultants and loss control professionals
Continually monitor, identify and assess changes in global risk profile, market and negotiate with domestic and international insurance companies and brokers to address the specific needs and exposures of the corporation. Develop tailored insurance programs to address these risks, analyze how losses can be prevented, assumed, transferred, or insured
Provide assistance and direction in connection with global acquisitions, divestitures and spins related to due diligence and insurance procurement activities. Manage all legacy liability to reduce the financial impact
Determine best method of protecting corporate assets, decide on appropriate risk retention levels, explore alternative funding vehicles
Knowledge of complex claims and litigation and its financial impact
Qualification
Required
10 years of corporate risk management or insurance experience, including 3 years in a leadership role
ARM or CPCU designations a plus
Proven ability to lead global insurance program design, placement, and renewals across multiple jurisdictions
Experience managing captive insurance strategy and governance, including regulatory compliance
Strong working knowledge of core commercial insurance lines (e.g., property, casualty, D&O, cyber)
Effective communicator with experience presenting to executives and Boards
Legal authorization to work in the U.S
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Finance, Insurance, Business Administration, or a related field
Advanced degree (MBA, JD) or certifications (e.g., RPLU, ARM, CPCU, CRM)
Experience managing single-parent, group, or cell captives in partnership with regulators, actuaries, and captive managers
Familiarity with risk financing strategies, including loss forecasting, self-insurance, and alternative risk transfer
Exposure to ESG-related risks, including climate, supply chain, or reputational exposure
Experience in public companies or regulated industries (e.g., aerospace, energy, financial services)
Proficiency in risk modeling and analytics tools
Strong leadership and mentoring skills in global, matrixed environments
High emotional intelligence and a collaborative, solution-oriented leadership style
Ability to operate in fast-paced, transformation-driven environments (e.g., M&A, carve-outs, global scale-ups)
