Roadway Engineer Intern - Kiewit Infrastructure Engineers (Summer 2026)

Responsibilities

Develop proficiency in highway geometric design (horizontal alignments, vertical alignments, typical sections, super-elevation) in accordance with state and local design standards including AASHTO
Learn and apply skills for creating surface models utilizing MicroStation/ InRoads, Civil3D, and/or other similar design software
Engage in interdisciplinary design coordination to ensure that project elements are compatible
Assist in developing preliminary design concepts for highways and civil features to support cost estimating
Assist in creating exhibits for meetings and proposals
Participate in final design of project elements such as roadway geometrics, roadway design plans, signing and marking plans, maintenance of traffic plans, wall plan and profile sheets

Required

Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering degree
Basic CAD skills in Bentley MicroStation/ InRoads and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D
Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite, including Microsoft Excel and Word
History of relevant class projects, internships and/or coursework during college
Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing
The ability to work independently and as part of a team
Regular, reliable attendance
Work productively and meet deadlines timely
Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment
Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies
Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required

Preferred

GPA above 3.0 preferred
Familiarity with design-build delivery is preferred
