Research Engineering Scientist Associate I

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a Research Engineering Scientist Associate I to assist and lead in the daily operations of the Core Facilities Laboratory at the Marine Science Institute. The role involves operating analytical instrumentation, developing methods to support faculty research, and managing laboratory operations.

Responsibilities

Weighing standards for analysis
Instrument calibration
Data analysis and management
Working with faculty, research scientists and students to develop novel methods to support their research needs
Performing preventative maintenance
Scheduling instrumentation through iLab (laboratory management system)
Procurement of laboratory supplies
Invoicing analysis for internal and external clients
Providing expertise in liquid chromatography applications, data acquisition and workflows (MassHunter, Isodat, Qtegra)
Conducts other duties as assigned from the Core Facilities Manager

Required

Minimum Bachelor of Science with a strong emphasis on analytical methods
Ability to communicate complex scientific ideas
Demonstrated knowledge in isotope and/or liquid chromatography mass spectrometry analytical techniques
Meticulous detail to quality control and assurance
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently

Preferred

M.S. or Ph.D in a relevant discipline with 3+ years of experience in analytical sciences
Knowledge of data workflows in software suites that includes; MassHunter, Qtegra, ISODAT
Prior experience in EPA methods pertaining to PFAS preparation, analysis, and data processing
Prior experience in isotope ratio mass spectrometry and applications

Retirement Plan Eligibility: The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
