Deputy Town Manager/Director of Administrative Services

The Town of Hanover, NH is seeking a Deputy Town Manager/Director of Administrative Services to provide administrative, operational, and financial leadership across all Town departments. This role involves assisting the Town Manager in coordinating municipal departments, overseeing financial functions, and representing the Town in various engagements.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Assist the Town Manager in the coordination and supervision of all municipal departments and operations
Oversee administrative and financial functions, including budgeting, procurement, contract administration, and organizational performance
Prepare and manage complex financial reports, projections, and policy analyses
Serve as Acting Town Manager in the Manager’s absence, exercising delegated authority as permitted under RSA 37:6
Support department heads in developing and implementing performance measures and operational improvements
Coordinate communication, presentations, and reports to the Selectboard
Promote transparency, customer service, and responsiveness in all municipal interactions
Represent the Town in meetings with residents, businesses, Dartmouth College, and regional organizations
Lead or oversee special projects and initiatives as assigned by the Town Manager

Required

Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field required
Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible management experience in municipal or public administration, including financial management and personnel supervision
Proven experience in community engagement, project management, and intergovernmental coordination
Exceptional Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build trust and work effectively with community members, employees, and officials
Strong Communicator: Confident and clear in public presentations and written communications, with the ability to explain complex issues in understandable terms
Collaborative Leader: Encourages teamwork and innovation across departments and inspires staff through positivity and professionalism
Strategic Thinker: Understands municipal operations, finance, and policy development, and uses data to drive sound decision-making
Public Service Passion: Brings enthusiasm, empathy, and a genuine desire to serve the Hanover community

Preferred

Master's degree or CPA designation strongly preferred
