Smart Grid Engineer - III/Senior
Arizona Public Service (APS) is a leading energy provider, and they are seeking a Smart Grid Engineer - III/Senior to provide technical engineering, design, economic, and analytical support. The role involves performing engineering tasks, providing technical guidance, and participating in the development of long-range system plans.
Responsibilities
Performs engineering tasks requiring skills and experience gained through application of engineering methods and analysis
Has increasing responsibility for technical decisions and interpretations
Provides technical guidance and leadership to others as needed
May be subject to shift work
Qualification
Required
A four-year Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline or related applied science discipline (see approved list) from an ABET accredited institution, an International Engineering Alliance (IEA) recognized institution or an ABET Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) plus five (5) years working experience in Engineering-related positions
A four year Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline or related applied science discipline (see approved list) from an ABET accredited institution plus eight (8) years working experience in Engineering-related positions
Familiarity with reliability and/or power quality technology, i.e. voltage regulators, capacitor banks, line sensors, reclosers / supervisory switches, dynamic VAR control, control/relay panels for various substation devices, and other SCADA controlled devices
Strong R&D, analytical, and communication skills with demonstrated ability to think strategically, innovate, stay current with industry trends and developments, and align technology solutions to technical business requirements for successful selection and execution of technology demonstration pilots
Advanced or technical degree or certificate in areas such as: Electrical Engineering Technology, Technology Innovation, Power Systems Automation, SCADA systems, network communications engineering & technology, construction project management, technology project management
Working knowledge any of the following: load flow analysis, short circuit analysis, state estimation, load management, distribution operations
Experience with software and systems such as Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS), CYME and similar power engineering software, OSI PI Data Historian, IBM Maximo, PowerBase, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system (SCADA), and DNP3 and/or Cellular network protocols
Training and assisting with the creation, design, configuration, validation, installation, commissioning and operation of automation and/or protection systems
Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, practices, methods and safety standards in electrical and power systems engineering
