Microbiologist
The Texas Department of State Health Services is committed to public health and is seeking a Microbiologist II to perform complex rabies diagnostic work. The role involves testing rabies specimens, maintaining laboratory operations, and assisting in the development of new procedures.

Responsibilities
Performs testing on all rabies specimens daily by fluorescent antibody techniques with 100% accuracy including preparing slides, staining slides, and interpreting immunofluorescence via microscopy for definitive diagnosis of rabies
Performs additional procedures to type or confirm rabies diagnosis including typing rabies positive specimens by monoclonal antibody immunofluorescent staining and RT-PCR testing
Prepares adequate supplies of high-quality reagents for routine rabies diagnostic work including preparation of conjugates, brain diluent suspensions, and buffers
Assists in development of new procedures, provides input to optimize efforts, and documents all development work thoroughly
Based on your work area, consistently comply with DSHS Laboratory, local, state and federal guidelines to ensure a safe functioning laboratory
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution
Preferred
Laboratory experience identifying viruses using diagnostic methods
Experience performing necropsy and/or animal testing in a laboratory or clinical setting
Experience with performing immunoassays
Experience using a microscope
