Department Head - Electrical Engineer
HumanUs Inc. is an established engineering firm specializing in the design of mechanical and electrical systems for various building environments. They are seeking a Department Head – Electrical Engineer to lead a team, ensure technical excellence in electrical design, and maintain strong client relationships while contributing to the firm's growth.

Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day guidance and mentoring to electrical design staff, helping them grow technically and professionally
Support staffing decisions, helping allocate team members to projects and balance workloads
Review electrical project deliverables to ensure quality, consistency, and code compliance
Participate in performance feedback and support training/development initiatives
Represent the electrical discipline in client meetings and project interviews as a subject matter resource
Lead the design of building electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, data/telecommunications, and fire alarm systems
Perform and review lighting calculations, circuit design, and layout of electrical equipment and switchgear
Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and best practices; coordinate with AHJs and regulatory bodies as needed
Conduct system evaluations and feasibility studies to recommend efficient, reliable electrical solutions
Collaborate with architects, mechanical engineers, and other disciplines from concept through construction
Help monitor project schedules and budgets, supporting the team in meeting financial and delivery targets
Contribute to project proposals and fee development alongside office leadership
Serve as a key point of contact for clients on assigned projects, helping maintain strong, long-term relationships
Identify opportunities for expanded services, repeat work, and new client engagements
Help enhance Firm’s reputation through quality work, reliability, and excellent client service
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
5–10 years of progressive experience in electrical design for buildings (power, lighting, and low-voltage systems)
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, however candidates without a PE will be considered, provided they are committed to obtaining licensure upon or shortly after hire (support available)
Proficiency with electrical design tools (e.g., Visual, ElumTools) and MS Office
Solid understanding of electrical codes, standards, and industry best practices
Emerging or early leadership experience (mentoring junior staff, leading portions of projects, or acting as a technical go-to)
Strong communication and interpersonal skills - you enjoy collaborating with both internal teams and external clients
Organized, accountable, and comfortable juggling multiple projects

Preferred
Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Revit is a plus
