Covenant Health is a healthcare provider with a focus on diverse medical specialties. They are seeking a Unit Secretary to provide clerical and secretarial services to the nursing unit assigned.

Responsibilities

Carries out the secretarial and clerical duties necessary for the efficient functioning of the nursing unit assigned

Communicates patient requests promptly to the nursing staff

Orders and charges for supplies and equipment

Schedules procedures and examinations with appropriate departments

Notifies consults when ordered (physicians, classes, etc.)

Maintains the patient record and efficiently operates the computer system

Processes patient classification data either manually or via computer

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Other duties as assigned

HEALTH/SAFETY/COMPETENCE: Cannot pose a direct threat to health or safety of self or others. Must provide safe, efficient, competent care to customer or patient population assigned. Must demonstrate competency in the unit specific functions described in the performance continuum, skills lists and/or standards

Required

Successful completion of a unit secretary course is required

Must be able to read with comprehension and write legibly

Must be proficient in use of proper grammar

Must have knowledge of medical terminology

Must have knowledge of hospital policies and procedures

Must have knowledge of infection control

Must have knowledge of fire and safety regulations

Preferred

Secretarial or clerical experience is desired

Previous hospital experience is desired

Certification in basic life support (CPR) may be required when the unit secretary works in a department where he/she is subject to assignment as a first responder to a cardiopulmonary arrest victim
