Highway Maintenance Supervisor (TM III) - Craig

Responsibilities
Ensures a safe and healthy work environment for all personnel on a day to day basis, keeping all employees working at their highest potential and keeping morale high
Plans, assigns and reviews the work of Transportation Maintenance Worker II's and other staff
Ensures compliance with all applicable policies, laws, rules and regulations
Coordinates with other Transportation Maintenance Supervisors and LTC Ops and ensures that maintenance activities are performed in accordance with appropriate plans, specifications and agency standards; supervises maintenance activities through scheduling of staff, equipment and products with allotted region dollars to meet levels of service
Leads employees by training, mentoring and coaching on the job and in the classroom; monitors personnel performance and addresses problems
Supervises snow and ice control programs
Supports and coordinates operations and initiates changes particularly in emergency conditions and unique situations; assists in emergency response incidents, which could include road closures, accidents, haz-mat spills, and road failures; coordinates with State Patrol and other law enforcement agencies
Represents CDOT with cities, counties, other groups and officials, and the public
Other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
At least five (5) years of experience in road/highway maintenance experience, which must have included two (2) years as an official work lead over a maintenance crew
Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License Class A or B with no restriction on air brakes that allows operation within Colorado
If you have a non-Colorado Commercial Driver's License, you must be eligible to drive in Colorado with your CDL at time of hire
Must pass a pre-employment screening which may include social security number trace, criminal records check, public court records check, educational records, and driving records checks
May be required to pass a controlled substance test (i.e. drug test), and DOT physical through our medical provider
On-call work (rotating basis as well as subject to call)
Shift work
Essential Services Designation – Required to report without delay or interruption to provide essential or emergency services to ensure health, safety, and welfare
May be required to live within thirty (30) minutes' driving time in normal weather conditions to be able to respond in a timely manner after being notified to report to work
New employees are required to take two weeks of maintenance training, while veteran CDOT employees are required to take one week of training each year
Must be willing to respond to emergencies outside regular work hours and work overtime including weekends and holidays
Must provide the supervisor with a telephone number where you can be reached for the purposes of responding to an emergency

Demonstrated success performing the duties as listed in the Description of the Job section
Years of State service experience related to the duties of this position
Knowledge and experience with CDOT incident management, maintenance operations, equipment, and budgets, including related policies, rules, and regulations
Knowledge and experience effectively dealing with human resources and personnel issues/complaints
Credibility on technical matters with staff, peers, staff of other organization units, internal and external customers, and local stakeholder groups
Identifying and analyzing problems using sound reasoning to arrive at conclusions, especially during emergency and stressful situations
Dedication to CDOT's mission, goals, and overall objectives
Demonstrated training and leadership knowledge, skill and ability
Promoting teamwork, pride, trust and group identity at all levels within the work unit
