Clinical Pharmacy Specialist (Facility Program Manager - Informatics)
The Memphis VA Medical Center is part of the Veterans Health Administration and is seeking a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist to manage informatics programs. Responsibilities
Coordinates the development and implementation of all pertinent information applications to support clinical practice, administration, educational development, research initiatives and computerized medical record in Pharmacy Service
Reports all findings on a regular, recurrent basis as well as ad hoc when prompt follow-up is required
Has a thorough knowledge of all VistA pharmacy programs, VistA service-integrated programs, the graphical user interface (GUI) employed by VHA, Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) or current Electronic Health Record, Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA), VA FileMan, Microsoft Structured Query Language (SQL) Server, Microsoft Power BI, Pyramid Analytics, VHA Support Service Center Capital Assets (VSSC), and all related data visualization and dashboards created locally, by the VISN, or national. The incumbent must also have a working knowledge of the hardware required to efficiently use all software employed by the service
Provides administrative, technical, analytical and automated data processing (ADP) support to Lt. Col. Luke Weathers, Jr. Pharmacy Service. Participates in Pharmacy Service information management managerial decisions and policy design
Evaluates current information management procedures and practices to determine how effectively current goals are being met and how services could be improved through changes in automation. Analyzes Pharmacy hardware and software needs, streamlines procedures and processes through information management automation and new technology
Serves as liaison between Pharmacy and OI&T. Identifies and translates Pharmacy Service needs/concerns/problems. Coordinates informatics installations and upgrades. Serves as the first point of contact for computer hardware software issues and triages appropriately
Collaborates with Informatics Managers from other services when required to address problems that cross service lines. Incumbent collaborates with Informatics Managers from other stations when necessary
Suggests and implements changes, working with the Pharmacy Management, Program managers and staff to coordinate training for pharmacy professionals on informatics procedures ensuring they meet identified standards
Serves as a member of various national groups dedicated to improving VA Pharmacy software and Pharmacy Re-Engineering
May be assigned cross-coverage duties as needed to meet the needs of the medical center
Creates and maintains the pharmacy database files such as the drug file, medication quick orders, etc. as well as setting and managing pharmacy site parameters to provide the maximum software programs flexibility and operational benefit
Ensures the entry of complete, accurate, and timely service data into the appropriate reporting systems. The specialist is the data quality assurance specialist within the service and acts as a "steward" of both service management and the VistA database information quality and integrity
Assists in other patient care areas as deemed necessary to maintain the consistency of overall pharmacy services
Reviews assigned non-formulary requests against national criteria for use and provides approval or disapproval recommendation
Develops and establishes policies and procedures defining operational requirements for quality improvement, safety, regulatory compliance, or as the Chief, Pharmacy Services assigns, and serves on assigned VA committees
Qualification
Required
U.S. Citizenship
Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree
Full, current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia
Must be proficient in written and spoken English
Must pass pre-employment physical examination
Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP)
Ability to communicate orally and in writing to persuade and influence clinical and management decisions
Expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards for their program area
Ability to solve problems, coordinate and organize responsibilities to maximize outcomes in their program area or area of clinical expertise
Expert knowledge of a specialized area of clinical pharmacy practice or specialty area of pharmacy
Advanced skill in monitoring and assessing the outcome of drug therapies, including physical assessment and interpretation of laboratory and other diagnostic parameters
