Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and develop a five-person accounting team, ensuring balanced workloads, high performance, and ongoing professional development
Act as the final escalation point for AP, AR, Payroll, and GL issues, providing technical support and clear direction
Evaluate and improve accounting workflows to reduce manual processes and build scalable, automated systems
Own and enforce the month-end close calendar, driving a disciplined process that significantly reduces days to close
Oversee financial consolidations across multiple entities, ensuring accurate intercompany eliminations and reconciliations
Prepare timely and accurate monthly financial statements—including P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow—for executive review
Design and enforce strong internal controls, including purchasing and expense approval policies
Oversee project accounting, revenue recognition, and cost allocation, ensuring accurate overhead application and profitability insights
Manage compliance processes including multi-state sales tax, corporate filings, insurance audits, and coordination with external tax firms
Lead revenue operations including invoicing, contract compliance, and coordination with Project Managers to ensure accurate and timely billing
Manage the weekly collections cadence, monitor aging receivables, and improve DSO through consistent follow-up
Oversee daily cash management, optimizing AP timing and working capital needs
Qualification
Required
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years as a Controller or VP of Finance leading an accounting team
Demonstrated experience with WIP reporting in a project- or job-costing environment is required
Detail-oriented “doer” who enjoys reconciliations, GL oversight, and documentation
Proven track record with ERP implementations and optimization, as well as expense management tools
Preferred
CPA strongly preferred
Experience in project-based accounting (engineering, construction, or professional services) with deep knowledge of revenue recognition (ASC 606)
