Risk Safety Specialist
NEOGOV is seeking a Risk Safety Specialist to coordinate safety and risk program practices in compliance with various regulations. The role involves conducting safety trainings, performing audits, and ensuring a safety-conscious culture across the college district.

Responsibilities
Assists the Director of Risk Management with the College’s district-wide risk management function
Researches, coordinates, recommends, implements, monitors, records, and drafts changes to current and new risk and safety programs, procedures, and trainings to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
Presents safety trainings. Maintains employee training records and follows up on incomplete employee training
Conducts job hazard analysis. Provides information to supervisors and employees on state and federal regulations, risk related information, and statistics. Reviews departmental safety programs, activities, and procedures to identify habits, trends, and patterns that affect the safe and efficient operation of departments. Develops programs to create a safety conscious culture throughout the entire district
Designated Chemical Hygiene Officer. Maintains and updates Chemical Hygiene Plan
Responsible for chemical handling safety. Coordinates hazardous waste handling, collection, disposal, and recordkeeping
Coordinates, facilitates, and/or performs weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, or annual safety inspections with vendors, facilities, and departments including but not limited to eyewash stations, safety showers, fire extinguishers, ladders, exit lights, emergency lighting, Personal Protection Equipment, and general facilities. Analyzes and records inspection reports, reports deficiencies, and proposes corrective actions. Implements and monitors corrective actions approved by the Director of Risk Management
Completes safety audits including but not limited to facilities audits, PPE audits, animal care/USDA audits, chemical inventory audits, and controlled drug/pharmaceutical audits. Records audit results, reports deficiencies, proposes corrective actions, implements and monitors corrective actions
Responsible for coordinating, tracking, and ensuring compliance with College departments on their required safety or compliance inspections/audits
Ensures personal protective equipment, first aid supplies, machine guarding, etc. is on hand and in use by the appropriate departments. Completes periodic checks to ensure compliance standards are met
Completes accident investigations. Determines root cause and develops/implements strategies to provide a safe environment while maintaining a high level of confidentiality
Communicates safety information to all levels of the organization in an accurate, clear, and timely manner
Coordinates and chairs the Employee Safety Committee including developing agendas and maintaining minutes. Promotes a safety culture throughout each department, building, and location
Maintains satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record
Works flexible work schedule as needed to complete essential duties
Completes compliance audits, which could include but not limited to payroll reviews, HR audits, Clery audits. Communicates findings and recommends risk mitigation strategies
Assists with compiling and processing confidential insurance and accident claims
Assists with reviewing Certificates of Insurance (COI) to ensure the College’s standards are met. Records and files COI. Communicates with deficiencies with the client/insurance company and the Director of Risk Management
Assists with maintaining accurate inventory of district wide assets
Assists with the confidential record retention process district-wide to ensure state compliance
Attends required trainings to maintain up-to-date job knowledge
Assists as directed in the event that it is necessary to deploy the Campus Emergency Response Plan, including performing as the Safety Director in the absence of the Director of Risk Management
Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree with three (3) years' work experience in risk management or safety programs preferred. In lieu of a bachelor's degree, some college classes in Risk Management, Safety, Chemistry, or Business and 5 years' experience in risk management or safety programs
Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word required
Advanced verbal and written communication skills required
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills required
Ability to use initiative and judgment to make decisions
Strong comprehension and commitment to maintaining confidentiality required
Ability to work as a productive team member while meeting individual responsibilities in a multi-task position
Highly developed interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to work in a culturally diverse workplace
Ability to work varied hours required
Ability to travel to and work from all Black Hawk College locations required
Valid driver's license required
Preferred
OSHA 30-hour general industry training certification preferred
