Responsibilities

Assists with duties associated with explosive operations in the Ammunition Preparation Plants under the direction of government Plant Lead
Performs duties with minimal supervision
Duties include but are not limited to assisting/preparing ammunition for testing; weighing and marking projectiles; modifying propellant; assembling rockets; performing continuity checks; installing fuzes on mortars; building excess bags; wax filling projectiles; loading and unload trucks; receiving and issuing ammunition; and transporting and tracking ammunition tested in environmental facilities
Operates a forklift in very small spaces
Provides assistance to and supports external customers working in the ammunition plants
Assists with adjusting propellant down range at a gun position to meet changing test requirements
Examines and repackages ammunition for turn-in
Provides excellent customer service
Performs other duties as assigned to complete the assigned mission

Required

Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
Must possess a valid Arizona Class A or Class B commercial driver's license with a Hazmat endorsement and maintain CDL for the duration of employment in the section
Must be selected to fill the Ammunition Plant Operator III position
Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience as a Conditioning Chambers Tech II or equivalent experience, including experience working in the Ammunition Plants
Must be able to obtain and maintain an Arms Ammunition, & Explosives Certification
Must be able to obtain and maintain an Ammo 45 Certification
Must be willing and able to perform the work necessary to handle ammunition in an ammunition plant setting
Must competently apply knowledge of hazard classifications and basic placarding
Must competently apply knowledge and understanding of ammunition accountability
Must be proficient in forklift operations and able to operate a forklift in a constricted area
Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical and periodic retests
Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned
Must be capable of working in extreme weather conditions including summer temperatures peaking around 120 degrees Fahrenheit
Must meet the physical requirements necessary to perform operation outlined, performed, and stated in the SOPs for the Ammunition Plants
Must be capable of lifting 105 lbs. chest high unassisted repeatedly during the duty day
Must be able to lift and transport 105 lbs. unassisted over level ground for 50 ft
Must be able to ascend and descend equipment
Must be tolerant of frequent weapons systems firings
Must not have color vision deficiency
Must have dependable transportation and a dependable means of communication
Must be able to work all shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed, sometimes on short notice, to support test missions
Must possess a valid driver's license, without special restrictions
Must be able to speak, write, read, and understand English
Must have a well-mannered customer service attitude
Must be willing to cross-train in other areas
Must use “down-time” effectively to the benefit of test, self, and the company
Must be punctual, responsible, and dependable
Must demonstrate motivation, initiative, and reliability
Must be adaptable, flexible, and able to adjust to new or changing instructions
Must have a demonstrated ability to follow instructions and company policy
Must be able to deliver quality products to the customer and be responsive to their needs
Must be safety and security conscious, complying with rules and policies
Must be able to work both as part of a team and independently
Must coordinate test requirements with Test Officers and keep the government Plant Lead informed
Must be able to accurately and completely fill out required paperwork

Preferred

Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
Knowledge or background in ammunition related field
Experience with forklift operations
Basic computer skills with Microsoft Outlook and the Internet
