Director of Category Management

The Director of Category Management is responsible for leading category management initiatives to drive growth, profitability, and market share while overseeing a high-performing team and collaborating with various departments to align strategies with business objectives.

Responsibilities
Lead the development and execution of enterprise-level category strategies that drive sustainable growth and align with brand, commercial, and customer objectives
Translate syndicated data, shopper insights, and marketplace dynamics into strategic recommendations that shape portfolio, pricing, and promotional decisions
Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, and Revenue Growth Management to deliver compelling, insight-based category stories that strengthen retailer partnerships
Influence customer joint business planning, assortment, and merchandising strategies to optimize shelf presence, space allocation, and category profitability
Drive innovation by identifying emerging consumer trends and whitespace opportunities to inform new product and pack strategies
Oversee the development of category scorecards and performance KPIs to measure share, velocity, and trade investment effectiveness
Collaborate with Supply Chain to ensure demand planning, promotional timing, and innovation launches align with category objectives
Build and lead a high-performing team, fostering analytical excellence, commercial acumen, and strategic influence
Represent the category function in senior leadership and customer meetings, articulating insights that shape strategic direction and execution
Stay ahead of evolving shopper and retail trends to maintain category leadership and competitive advantage
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in business, Marketing, Economics, Finance, or related field
7–10 years of progressive experience in category management, trade marketing, or shopper insights (CPG or beverage industry preferred)
5+ years of management or team leadership experience
Proven record of influencing retail buyers and driving category growth initiatives
Experience collaborating with senior leadership and managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines
Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
Availability to work extended hours or weekends: planning cycles, product launches, or trade events
Ability to travel up to 20–25%, including customer and market visits, trade shows, and business reviews
Prolonged periods of sitting, working on a computer, and conducting virtual or in-person meetings
Occasional standing, walking, bending, or lifting of materials up to 25 pounds (e.g., product samples, display materials)
Ability to travel by air and car for business purposes
Preferred
MBA or relevant advanced degree
Experience in the CPG or beverage industry
Bilingual proficiency in English/Spanish
